Objectives & Functions
The major objectives of the Oyo State Ministry of Culture and Tourism include the following:
Preservation of Cultural Heritage
To preserve and protect the historical, cultural and traditional heritage of Oyo State for present and future generations.
Development of Cultural Industries and Cultural Festivals
To promote arts, crafts, music, dance, theatre, film, traditional textiles, cultural festivals, traditional celebrations and other creatives in the cultural industries as instruments for cultural preservation, tourism promotion, employment creation and economic development.
Employment and Youth Empowerment
To use culture and tourism as platforms for creating employment, entrepreneurship and income-generating opportunities, particularly for young people and members of local communities.
Research and Documentation
To conduct research and document the history, traditions, festivals, monuments, cultural practices, arts, crafts and tourism resources of Oyo State.
Public-Private Partnership
To encourage collaboration between government, private investors, communities, traditional institutions, development partners and other stakeholders in the development and promotion of culture and tourism.
Promotion of Tourism and Development of Tourism Infrastructure
To identify, develop, promote and market the tourism potentials of Oyo State locally, nationally and internationally.
Attraction of Investment
To create an enabling environment for local and international investors in tourism, hospitality, entertainment, culture, arts and creative industries.
Development of Tourism Infrastructure
To encourage the development and improvement of infrastructure and facilities around tourist destinations, including roads, accommodation, recreational facilities, visitor centers and other supporting infrastructure.
International Cultural Promotion
To project and promote the cultural identity and tourism potentials of Oyo State internationally through cultural exchanges, festivals, exhibitions, conferences and tourism events.
